Krystin Rennie
Strength and Conditioning Specialist

“Hi everyone! My name is Krystin and I am the Strength and Conditioning Specialist for Adapted Fitness.
My passion lies in helping people realize their strength and find their inner power. Nothing inspires me more than the confidence that my clients gain while they are building muscle, hitting weightlifting PRs and perfecting exercise technique!
You deserve to feel powerful and I want to help you with that!
*I am a member of the LGBTQ community and I accept clients of any gender identification (as long as you are respectful)!”
My Specialties: Strength and Conditioning, Corrective Exercise, Weightlifting Technique, Vegan Muscle Building and ‘Burn and Build’ Recomposition.
My Personal Fitness Journey: My fitness journey began at a young age, when I started participating in sports during elementary school. It was immediately noted that I was stronger and more athletic than most kids my age-definitely stronger than anyone expected a girl to be.
I thrived on the sense of power I had in being recognized as a strong female and I never let go of that.
As I grew into a young woman and struggled with my identity and sexuality (amongst other life stresses), I found myself returning to the gym for that feeling of power and strength.
I found my way into fitness communities that praised women for being strong, such as the powerlifting, bodybuilding and Olympic lifting communities. I decided pretty quickly that not only did I want to continue my own fitness journey in this direction, but I also wanted to help expose other people to this empowering side of fitness that celebrates bigness and strength!
I am honored to spend every day helping people proudly take up more space and express their personal power!

Elexis Smolak
Lead Fitness Professional

“Hey queens! My name is Elexis and I am the Lead Fitness Professional and Owner of Adapted Fitness.
I love helping women learn how to communicate with and take care of their bodies in a way that is respectful to the mind, body and lifestyle.
I get pretty personal with my clients: together, we take a spiritual and physical journey to integrate health and fitness deep into your lifestyle for permanent results- not another trend.
My clients not only experience a transformation of posture and physique, but also of their eating habits and the way they look at food, their stress management techniques, their self-care and self-love practices, and their sense of self-worth.
You are worth having an all-around good relationship with your body and I can help you achieve that!
*I am an ally of the LGBTQ community and I have resources for all gender identifications. Due to my specialized education in female hormone health, I only accept female clients, or transgender clients on female hormone treatment. This is to make sure that I am available to the people who really need my specific skill set.”
My Specialties: Nutrition Coaching, Womens Fitness, Integrative Health & Fitness, Injury Pre & Rehab, Chronic Disease Management
My Personal Fitness Journey: My fitness journey started in childhood in school sports and has been rocky and riddled with injury, illness, disordered eating and abusive exercise behaviors.
It’s been a long road for me to repair my relationship with my body and along the way I have studied, practiced and learned so much that I wish I could box up and gift to my younger self before she endured as much as she did.
After so much though, I realized that I was struggling with my health and fitness for one simple reason: none of these workouts or diets were adapted to me or my body…half the time, they were downright disrespectful of my body.
When I adapted my health habits to my body and my lifestyle, everything almost accidentally fell into place and I stopped struggling to meet my health and fitness goals.
It was as simple as taking the time to make sure that I was respecting the uniqueness of my body and everything (besides body fat) that it deals with.
That’s honestly the fuel behind Adapted Fitness: I’m hoping to reach women who need help repairing or building their relationship with their bodies, just like I did.
You are so much more than body fat and I love to help you see that!

our Founder
I’ve spent my whole life studying and trying different diets, exercises, lifestyle habits, etc. and in my early 20’s I started using this knowledge to naturally address my catamenial epilepsy.
I quickly realized how much power this knowledge brought me when I was actually able to successfully control not only my epilepsy with diet and exercise, but also my moods, bloating, energy, healing time and so much more.

A NEW APPROACH
TO
HEALTH & Fitness
A message from our Founder and Lead Fitness Professional:
As a kid I was pretty active and involved in sports the way that most kids were, but when I found Jane Fonda’s Workout book at 11 years old it completely changed my life. Shortly thereafter I had gotten my hands on a Billy Blanks Tae Bo video class and fitness just injected itself into my blood.
I did my first stint of vegetarianism from the age of 13-17, and at 15 I tried my first hot yoga class…the list goes on from there.
I’ve spent my whole life studying and trying different diets, exercises, lifestyle habits, etc.
In my early 20’s I started using this knowledge to naturally address my catamenial epilepsy.
I quickly realized how much power this knowledge brought me when I was actually able to successfully control not only my epilepsy with diet and exercise, but also my moods, bloating, energy, healing time and so much more.
When I realized this I went on a very disorganized mission to try to help every woman I knew: I started secretly mixing spinach into soups for my mom, and I was forcing all of my girlfriends to exercise with me-I think everyone hated me during this time LOL!
I did what I could for the people I could, until I had a family and the harsh reality came: I could not work a full time job, raise a family, train myself and help other people (and try as I might I couldn’t figure out how to add extra time to the day).
Finally I came to the conclusion that I should become a personal trainer, and once I got that one certification I just couldn’t stop. Excitedly, I built up a portfolio of certifications that help me specialize my work for my clients, and offer more education to help them.
In the midst of these studies, I started training my very first clients and they all had such a profound impact on me and my career but these three women really helped me hone in on my mission to help women with fitness (for the sake of anonymity they will be referred to numerically):

Client #1
This was my very first client who was not someone I already knew and she came into our consultation completely nervous: almost shaking.
She reluctantly let me guide her through most of my physical assessments until we got to the treadmill for a cardiovascular assessment…
…at this point she stepped on the treadmill and just started crying. I immediately asked her to come off the treadmill and to communicate with me about what is going wrong.
She told me that she did not want to disappoint me but that she was nervous to do any running because the last time she ran on a treadmill she ended up puking and almost fainting.
She explained further that she had been working with a male trainer, whom she had tried to explain that she had PCOS to, but he had no idea what PCOS was and so neglected to respect the limitations of her body.
As a result, he had her sprinting through a “stomach cramp” that actually ended being a ruptured cyst and severely hurting her physically, and traumatizing her mentally.
Once I realized all of this I assured my client that I was not disappointed in her and that I would not force her to do anything that she’s uncomfortable doing.
We ended up building a strong and successful relationship and being able to get back on the treadmill to SPRINT UPHILL!!!
Client #2
I picked up my first client when I contracted in a gym, and she had pretty standard goals: to slim and tone her body.
Her and I worked together twice a week, I had her on an at home exercise program, and a specific schedule of group classes to attend.
I advised her on her diet as much as I was qualified to at the time and we really did great work together.
We initially planned to work together for only 3 months, but when we met our 3 month goal we set more goals and kept working on refining her health and fitness.
As always, I worked to educate this client on what we were doing and why that was beneficial to her body and one day she proudly came into our session and told me that she had created her own at-home workout program and that I did not need to anymore.
I high-fived her and told her how good she was doing at learning these things and how soon enough, she wouldn’t need me anymore.
Her face quickly became morose and she looked at me very seriously when she told me “I probably don’t need you even now, but you’re the only person who makes me feel good about myself…
you’re the only person who tells me that I am doing a good job”…
(Yes I cried.)
Client #3
I had a client who suffered from a severe and long-lasting case of diastasis recti, or separated abdomen.
She had done physical therapy and was told that she had an uncorrectable case (without surgery which she refused) and would never be able to contract her abdomen again.
This made her extremely apprehensive to do any planking or intense core activities,
and also insecure when she attended a group exercise class and had to constantly modify.
I got her in for independent training and we spent 2 hours a week physically holding the stomach with the hand and contracting the abdomen during various exercises-we must have looked completely crazy with both of us holding her stomach for an hour at a time!
It only took 1 month to establish neuromuscular connection, at which time the client was able to feel the contracting of her abdomen for the first time in over a decade!
Her eyes completely lit up-you have never seen someone so excited to be feeling the stomach burn during a plank LOL!
